THE ARTs EFFECT

 CREATE.  PERFORM. INSPIRE.

The Arts Effect: Create. Perform. Inspire. is a student-led fundraiser dedicated to making the arts accessible for youth both locally in Vancouver and globally. On November 23, young artists will come together to showcase their talents in visual art, dance, music, and performance while raising awareness and funds for two incredible organizations: Arts Umbrella and Hogar de Gina. Our mission is simple: create opportunities, perform with purpose, and inspire change through the transformative power of the arts.

Event details:  An Art Gallery will be held in The Arts Umbrella Atrium showcasing artwork made by students in the community. Later on, a performance will be held in Jack and Darlene Poole Theatre in genres such as dance, music and acting, reflecting the genres that Victoria and Danika explore.

Concession Stand: A concession stand will be open during the reception and intermission run by Hogar de Gina. All profit will go towards Hogar de Gina.

Tap on the link below to get tickets for The Art Effect! Priced at $10 for youth (18 and under) and $30 for adults.

About the Organizations

Arts Umbrella

Arts Umbrella is a nonprofit arts education center in Vancouver that makes the arts accessible to all youth, regardless of financial means. Both Danika and Victoria have participated in programs here since they were young, exploring dance, acting, music, and visual arts, and have experienced firsthand how special this place is. We’ve seen how Arts Umbrella nurtures creativity and confidence, and we support them because every young person deserves the chance to explore their imagination, discover their potential, and grow through the arts. This fundraiser helps make those opportunities available to even more youth.

hogar de gina

Hogar de Gina is a home for abandoned girls in Peru that provides safety, care, and opportunities for young girls who have faced extreme hardship. Danika has been involved with Hogar de Gina throughout high school and built a strong bond with the girls. After traveling to Peru, she saw the challenges they face, including limited resources, education, and basic necessities. Despite this, many of the girls have natural talent and a deep passion for the arts. This fundraiser helps provide supplies and creative opportunities for them to explore music, dance, acting, and visual arts.

We encourage and appreciate donations towards Arts Umbrella and Hogar de Gina. You’ll also have an opportunity to make donations during the event on November 23rd.

About the Organizers

Danika Sung

Hi, my name is Danika Sung, and I’m a grade 11 student with a passion for the arts. Since I was little, I’ve loved dance, music, and visual arts. From the moment I took my first steps, I was dancing, and ever since, I’ve spent my time in the studio or on stage exploring a variety of styles. Around the same time I learned to speak and write, I picked up a guitar, and by age nine, I was performing and singing at a local guitar shop. In high school, I found myself drawn to the visual arts studio, spending my free time imagining new worlds and bringing them to life on canvas. Art has taught me to see the world through a different lens: one with passion, purpose, dreams, and drive. Whether I’m on the stage or in the studio, art is how I’ve come to understand myself. But more than that, it has shown me how powerful creativity can be,  and now, I want to share that experience with others. As I continue to grow and create, I hope to give others the chance to connect with who they are through art, just like I have.

Victoria sun

Hello, my name is Victoria Sun, and I am a Grade 11 student who has always found joy and self-expression in the arts. I began ballet at the age of four, and for the past twelve years, it has been my home, a place where movement became freedom and classmates became family. Though I no longer dance competitively, ballet remains a part of me. Over time, I also discovered public speaking and theatre, where I would explore voices and characters unlike my own. Whether portraying a father’s grief in court or a girl’s first encounter with love, I learned to see life through different perspectives. The arts have taught me many lessons. They have given me a voice, and they have shaped who I am. More importantly, they have shown me that expression is not just personal, it is universal. My hope is to carry that forward, helping others find their own voice and discover the same strength and connection that the arts have given me.
